From Tampa Bay to the Thames: Return to the Island

As some of you may know I went to Northern Ireland in March 2015 on a research trip, which resulted in a published piece about the education system in Northern Ireland. Two years later, I have returned to Island of Ireland, but this time to the Republic.

Due to Storm Doris my first flight was cancelled, but luckily I was able to get on another flight that day and off I was over the Irish Sea.

I stayed with my friend Sarah, who is currently studying abroad at University City Dublin. I was also able to meet up with Billy, who was my roommate sophomore year. It was great being able to hang out friends who I haven't seen since December.

The first night we got dinner at The Old Storehouse, but I was tired so it was an early night! Which was a good idea, since Sarah and I had to get up early to go on a Paddywagon Tour of Glendalough and Kilkenny.

Glendalough, also known the "valley of the two lakes," was absolutely gorgeous. Though Sarah and I were fighting the gusts of Storm Doris, the views were worth it.

After the beautiful vistas of Glendalough, we then headed off to the medieval city of Kilkenny. Sarah and I went to lunch at The Fig Tree and headed off to explore the castle grounds and nearby shops.

The next day was mostly devoted to the Guinness Storehouse tour. Sarah and I got a quick brunch at Metro Cafe before hopping in a cab to see what makes Guinness so special. This was my first time trying Guinness and I couldn't wait. I was pleasantly surprised! I can see myself having a few more of these in the future. 😉

Alas my last day in Dublin had come and there was still so much exploring to do! First things first though: brunch. Billy, Sarah and I went to Brasserie Sixty6 for some much needed energy before walking all around Dublin. After pancakes, eggs and coffee, the three of us went to Dublin Castle and St Patrick's Cathedral.

After the gorgeous weather of that morning, Dublin evidently wanted to send me off with more authentic weather (AKA rain). But my plane was still on time and I made it back to London safe and sound.

I had an amazing time in Dublin and I can't wait to go back to discover more of the Emerald Isle.
